Wayne Gooden

Wayne Allen Gooden, 68, of 3239 Northview Lane, Elkton, VA 22827, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at his home on Monday, May 19, 2008, after a battle with cancer that was diagnosed in October 2007.  He previously became disabled in September 2000 from a Multi-Bilateral Pulmonary Embolism.Active Image

He was born Oct. 27, 1939, in Elkton, and was the son of the late Marjorie Gooden Hall.

On Aug. 2, 1961, in Orange, Va., he married his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Kirby, who survives.  He is also survived by his only child, Roxanna Lynn Gooden Howdyshell and her husband, Benny, of Penn Laird, Va.; and two precious grandsons, Philip Wayne Gooden and Christopher Allen Gooden, who reside with their mother.

Wayne was a 1958 graduate of Elkton High School, where his classmates nicknamed him “Pudge.”  He was also known by family and friends as “Sonny.”  He served in the United States Navy as a Radioman Seaman from 1959 to 1961.  From 1972 until 2000 he was a Cemetery Salesman for Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, Va., Holly Memorial Gardens, Monticello Memory Gardens, and Riverview Cemetery, all in Charlottesville, Va.  His passion was attending church at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Elkton, where he was a Deacon, Trustee, and Musician; playing the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and banjo since 1973 until the present.  As a memorial tribute the Acts 2:38 Special that he played and wrote will be played at his service in his honor.

The Rev. Ronald Spencer and the Rev. Homer Frazier will conduct the service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle, 18132 Spotswood Trail in Elkton.  Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with graveside rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.  Friends and family may also visit at his home at anytime.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elkton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 152, Elkton, VA 22827.
