Velma graduated from Timberville High School and was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church and had been attending Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene. Her familiar face was well known through her employment at 7-Eleven locations throughout the city. She had gained many dear and personal friends during her lifetime.

Survivors include her very special dog, Sparky; two sisters, Genny E. Kline of Harrisonburg and Virginia “Oscar” Estep and husband, Joe, of Mt. Jackson; four half brothers; one half sister; two nieces; two special nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.

A celebration reception in her memory will be held Sunday evening, Aug. 17, 2008, between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. As per her request her body was cremated and a scattering ceremony will be held at a later date. Velma’s wishes for those that attend the informal memory reception are encouraged to wear casual attire and celebrate her life in a way in which she would be honored.

I was very sadden to her of Nonnie's passing. Nonnie and I worked side by side at Burger King for 3 years and later she worked with me at Dairy Queen as well. Nonnie had such a spark for life and I really enjoyed all she had to offer. She was a great co worker and friend and will be saddly missed.
