Velma Naomi Clark

Velma Naomi Clark, 73, of Harrisonburg, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer. Ms. Clark was born July 27, 1935, in Timberville to the late Kirby Allen and Gladys Naomi Campbell Clark.

Velma graduated from Timberville High School and was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church and had been attending Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene. Her familiar face was well known through her employment at 7-Eleven locations throughout the city. She had gained many dear and personal friends during her lifetime.

Survivors include her very special dog, Sparky; two sisters, Genny E. Kline of Harrisonburg and Virginia “Oscar” Estep and husband, Joe, of Mt. Jackson; four half brothers; one half sister; two nieces; two special nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.

A celebration reception in her memory will be held Sunday evening, Aug. 17, 2008, between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. As per her request her body was cremated and a scattering ceremony will be held at a later date. Velma’s wishes for those that attend the informal memory reception are encouraged to wear casual attire and celebrate her life in a way in which she would be honored.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1477, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or the Rockingham-Harrisonburg S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 413, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

Velma was a great lady and a friend. I will remember her always -- and sweet little Sparky -- what a team! Don't worry Sparky, you'll see her again when you get to visit doggy heaven and Velma is there checking on Jessie. My condolences to the family also. You have been blessed with a very special sister and aunt.
