Thomas V. "Bob" Whitfield

Thomas V. “Bob” Whitfield, 80, of Elkton, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Evergreene Meadows Nursing Care Center in Stanardsville, Va., of Active Image

complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Born July 26, 1928, in Elkton, Va., he was the son of the late Karl R. and Pauline Smith Whitfield.

He graduated in 1945 from Elkton High School. Bob was a master electrician and retired from Broadway Electric as marketing manager.

Bob was a past member of the Rockingham Male Chorus, chair of the Elkton Cemetery Commission, The Elkton Historical Society, a longtime Cub Scout leader, and a faithful blood donor. Bob was proud of Elkton and was a member of Elkton Area United Services.

Bob attended The Church of The Valley and was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church. He was a past chair of the Board of Trustees and past Chairman of the Administrative Board.

He is survived by his wife, Katie Lou Comer; sons, Ed Whitfield and wife, Sharon, and Tom Whitfield; daughter, Lou Ellen Kirkendall and husband, Mel; three granddaughters, Melody Morton and husband, Dave, Adair Terry and husband, Nick, Marie Whitfield and fiancé, John O’Connor; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Katie Rose Morton; and a brother, Avery Whitfield and wife, Barbara.

Bob lived a very happy, full life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We appreciate all of your kind deeds, thoughts, and prayers during this sad, but blessed time.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 3 p.m, at Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton, with the Rev. Alfred Comer and the Rev. James B. Martin officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elkton Area United Services, 218 W. Spotswood Trail, Elkton, VA 22827, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 250 E. Market St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
