Donald George Sites, 79, of Harrisonburg, formerly of Petersburg, W.Va., passed away on Nov. 24, 2010, at his residence after a long illness with Alzheimer's.
Mr. Sites was born on Oct. 25, 1931, in Pendleton County, W.Va., and was a son of the late Noah and Myrtle (Kessel) Sites.
On April 1, 1956, he married Arlena Swick, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sites is survived by a son, Steven Sites and girlfriend, Anna LaClair, of Harrisonburg; a grandson, Tristan Sites; one brother, Rudy Sites and wife, Pattie, of Keyser, W.Va.; half brother, Noah Sites of North Carolina; three sisters, Pauline Mongold and companion, Teddy Keplinger, of Maysville, W.Va., Janet Crites of Petersburg, W.Va., Betty Borrell and husband, Bob, of Clinton, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Sites; and three sisters, Leta Nelson and Twila Plaugher, and Ruth Frye.
He attended Petersburg High School when he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sites was a member of the VFW in Petersburg, W.Va.
Donald retired from A&P Grocery Store, where he worked for 39 years in the dairy department. He later retired as a school bus driver. Mr. Sites was a member of the First Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Ron Wyrick officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Weaver's Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
