Sarah T. Forrest

Sarah Tinniswood (Smith) Forrest, 86, a resident at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010.

Mrs. Forrest was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Newark, N.J., and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Annie (Clayton) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by two brothers and two sisters.

Sarah worked as a teacher's aide for the Wayne County School System for many years prior to her retirement. She loved doing housework, spending time with her children and grandchild, and most of all she loved to travel. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

On Sept. 19, 1941, she married Edward Forrest, who survives. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Deborah Forrest of Harrisonburg; two sons, Terry Forrest and wife, Mary, of Smith Mountain Lake, Va., and Jeffrey Forrest of Pompton Lakes, N.J.; a granddaughter, Heather Forrest; and a niece, Arden Hajos. 

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Edward Bachschmid officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery near Port Republic.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
