Howard Bryne Hornick, 69, of Harrisonburg, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hornick was born Aug. 6, 1941, in Elkins, W.Va., and was a son of the late Dorsey V. and Mary Elizabeth (Wyatt) Hornick.
Howard was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. Mr. Hornick owned and operated Generation Gap Restaurant in Harrisonburg for many years. He also managed Midway Market and was a salesman for Krispy Kreme Donuts, Tasty Kake and Flowers Bread.
Mr. Hornick enjoyed hunting and fishing and drinking his Diet Dr. Pepper. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed going home to Elkins. Howard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
On April 23, 1963, he married Patricia Ann Riggleman, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hornick is survived by a son, Aaron Hornick; five daughters, Jeanette DeMastus and husband, Fred, of Harrisonburg, Vickie Hornick of Harrisonburg, April Hedrick and husband, H. Edward of Harrisonburg, Misty Hornick of Harrisonburg and Jessica "J.R." Hornick of Broadway; one brother, Dale Hornick of Shipman, Va.; one sister, Josephine "Jo" Hornick of Broadway; nine grandchildren, Marc Sloop, Joshua Sloop, Bryne Hedrick, Lindsi Hedrick, Megan Hedrick, Cierra Stevens, Isaiah Solomon, Kayla Hoover and Johann Ellis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dempsey Hornick and Eugene Hornick; two sisters, Freda Hornick and Elaine Hornick; and a grandson, H. Edward Hedrick II.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Seth Stratford officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Harrisonburg.
