Lois Jean Acker

Lois Jean Acker, 66, of Harrisonburg, Va., and formerly of Grottoes, Va., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. 

Ms. Acker was born on June 12, 1944, in Grottoes, Va., and was a daughter of the late Lyle Frankfort and Elizabeth Merica Mace. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Mace and Arnold Mace.

Lois was devoted to her Christian Faith and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had previously been married and as a homemaker, cared for all her family. She found enjoyment in completing jigsaw and word puzzles among many other interests. She never met a stranger and was considered by her children to be the greatest mom ever.

Surviving are sons, Robert D. Acker Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Elkton and John W. Acker and wife, Christine, of Milan, Mich.; daughters, Elaine A. Morris and fianc?, Kevin Wood, of Huttonsville, W.Va., Rebecca S. Bailey and husband, Reginald, of Smithfield, Va., and Martha J. Guevara-Romero and husband, Jesus, of Baltimore, Md.; a nephew, raised as a son, Ronald W. Mace; nine grandchildren, Antonio Jordan, Kevin Wood, Aaron Acker, Krista Wood, Robert Acker III, Andre Acker, Lyle Acker, Isaias Guevara-Romero and Elizabeth Guevara-Romero; her sisters, Dorris Moody of Grottoes and Hilda Condon of California, Md.; and eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with Pastors Wayne Wright and Wayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hahn Cancer Center, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
