James "Warren" Phillips, 87, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for two weeks.
Mr. Phillips was born on June 11, 1923, in Mountain Valley, and was a son of the late Oscar and Bertie Rosenberger Phillips.
He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in Germany. He was a member of the Mountain Valley United Methodist Church and loved playing his guitar and violin.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances Armentrout Phillips; a loving daughter, Hilda Phillips and dear friend, Richard Layman, and many nieces and nephews. Two infant sons, two sisters, and five brothers preceded him in death.
At his request, his body was cremated. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Mountain Valley Cemetery.
