Eileen Bowers Van Pelt

Eileen Bowers Van Pelt, age 86, of Mount Crawford, passed from this life on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She was born in Weyers Cave on July 25, 1923, to the late Jesse and Stella Garst Bowers.

Eileen graduated from Weyers Cave High School and attended Madison College. She was active in her church congregation and performed her passion for music as an organist and pianist in church. She found great enjoyment in listening to music, tending to her flowers and for many years teaching piano lessons in her home.

On Feb. 26, 1946, she married Boyd A. Van Pelt Jr., who preceded her in death in 1998. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Neil A. Van Pelt.

Surviving are two sons, Boyd Van Pelt III and wife, Susan, of Weyers Cave, and The Rev. Barry Van Pelt and wife, Martha, of Richardsville; her daughter, Paige V. Stevens and husband, Craig, of Bridgewater; six grandchildren, Boyd Van Pelt IV and wife, Connie, John Van Pelt and wife, Beth, Stephen Van PeltĀ  and wife, Nikki, Jeremy Van Pelt and wife, Jin Li, Catherine Van Pelt and Christy El-Nemr and husband, Khaled; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Van Pelt and Kinley Grace Van Pelt and cousin, Mabel Garst.

Graveside services will be held privately on Monday, July 19, 2010, at Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery near Mount Crawford with the Rev. J. Jared Smith presiding.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Bridgewater Rescue Squad, PO Box 285 or the Bridgewater Fire Company, 304 N. Main St. Bridgewater, VA 22812.

person and always had a smile for you. I really enjoyed her music. Grandma

Mrs. Van Pelts Family
I spent 10 years, once a week with your mother, taking piano lessons. She
taught me not only to read the music, but to appreciate the music as well. My
thanks to her for all the lessons taught.
