Virginia Raynes Rhine, a resident of Verona, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the age of 76. She was born in Sugar Grove, W.Va., on Oct. 16, 1933, and was a daughter of the late Frank and Ida Fletcher Eckard. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Weldon B. Raynes; her second husband, Melvin C. Rhine; her son, Ronnie Raynes; one daughter, Phyllis Hough; two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Rhine resided in Maryland, where she retired from Sears after 30 years. She, along with her husband, retired to Tennessee and resettled locally with her daughter following his passing. Virginia was an exceptionally friendly and determined person that enjoyed bluegrass, gospel, crafts and cooking.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra K. Long (Robert) of Verona; one sister, Sarah Oakes of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Bradley Raynes, David Powers Jr. and Ashley Powers; two great-grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Interment will follow at the Clover Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
