Patricia Ann Byrom, 77, of Crozet, Va., died June 29, 2010, at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, Va.
Mrs. Byrom was born Aug. 11, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., and was the daughter of the late Thomas Randall and Myrtle Kathryn Bunton.
She graduated from Michigan State College and received a master's in education from the University of Virginia. She was a member of Crozet Baptist Church. Mrs. Byrom, retired U.S. Air Force wife of 26 years, served and supported families through the various wives and officers groups at the bases they were stationed.
Patricia was a Title 1/Special Education elementary school teacher, serving Albemarle County schools at their education offices, then at Stone Robinson Elementary and
ultimately retiring from Crozet Elementary School after 22 years. Pat previously taught
in California, Nebraska, Northern Virginia and Indiana, where they were stationed.
With devotion and integrity she taught. She also loved her opportunities to travel within the U.S., and also Europe, China, Korea and Guatemala.
On Jan. 7, 1956, she married Robert Milton Byrom, who survives. Also surviving are their four sons, two daughters and 17 grandchildren: Robert Randall Byrom, wife, Tamara, and children, Jessica, Joe and Jenny of South Lyon, Mich.; Laura Lee Neva and children, Allen and Aimee of Absarokee, Mont.; James Kevin Byrom, wife, Xiao Yin, and their children, Matthew, Christopher and Bobby
of Manassas, Va.; Susan Marie Loose and her stepchildren, Sara and Emily and children, Becca and Adam of New Ulm, Minn.; Douglas Edward Byrom, wife, Lisa, and children Jeff, Kevin, Ethan and Jonathan of Henderson, N.C.; and Christopher Lee Byrom, wife, Michelle, and their children, Samuel, Anika and Paul of Belleville, Ill.
A memorial service will be held 9 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2010, at the Memorial Base Chapel, Fort Myer, Va., with the Rev. William Young, retired USAF Chaplain, co-officiating. Interment will follow at
Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family through Susan Loose, 3 Clay Circle, New Ulm, MN 56073, to be used for educational memorial funding books for the Title program at Crozet Elementary School or to the Patricia Ann Forest Preserve Park. In honor of Patricia Ann Byrom, 600 acres of their Cottonwood family farm was gifted to Albemarle County in 2004 as a Forest Preserve Park, in which facilities are currently under construction. The park is to open this fall. Your memorials may also be made to a charity of your choice.
