Margaret Elizabeth Brown Nizer

Margaret Elizabeth Brown Nizer, 90, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Nizer was born April 17, 1920, in White Stone, Va., and was adopted by the late William S. and Minnie N. Brown.

Mrs. Nizer was a member of the Mount Paran Baptist Church near Elkton and a charter member of the Deaconess Board. She also served as former president of the Ladies' Auxiliary, assistant Sunday school teacher and assistant church clerk. She was also an ordained deacon, member of the Berean Valley Baptist Association and the Church Women United. She was a seamstress for Dayton Interiors, retiring in the early eighties.

Her husband, Thomas D. Nizer Sr., preceded her in death in 1985, and also former husband, Sherman L. Fields, in August of 2008. Surviving family includes a son, Thomas D. Nizer Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Decatur, Ga.; daughter, Esther M. Nizer of Elkton; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends; sister-in-law, Amelia Jones and husband, Earl, of Penn Laird; and son-in-law, Samuel Butler, of Elkton. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by daughters, Clarice E. Nizer in 2005 and Nancy N. Butler in 2010.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Mount Paran Baptist Church near Elkton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Nizer home at anytime.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Paran Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1229 Mount Paran Church Road, Elkton, VA 22827, or Elkton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 152, Elkton, VA 22827.

fulfilled her assignment and now has gone to her eternal rest. May God grant
