Lester Leon Minnick, 67, of Elkton, went to be with the Lord May 29, 2010, at his home. Mr. Minnick was born Dec. 28, 1942, in Mayland, and was the son of the late Wilbert David and Mary Lee Fern Kennedy Minnick.
He was a crane operator for Hammond & Mitchell for a number of years and retired from Agforte Hatchery. He attended the Mercy & Grace Church in Stanley and was a member of the N.R.A. He loved to hunt and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed gospel music and sang with the "Glory Bound Gospel Singers."
Mr. Minnick is survived by his wife, Betty (Turner) Minnick; a daughter, Peggy Turner and husband, Terry, of Timberville; a brother, Arnold Minnick and wife, Jean, of Elkton; a sister, Margie Turner and husband, Earl Ray, of McGaheysville; a granddaughter, Angel Turner; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Minnick was preceded in death by a sister, Carlinda Sue Jones.
Pastors Ray Berry, James Kite and Billy King will conduct the funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the Minnick home at any time.
