Edward Albert Hruza, Ph.D., 74, of McGaheysville, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hruza was born on Feb. 22, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., and was a son of the late Albert and Ann Elizabeth Findor Hruza.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during the 1960s in the Special Forces. He had a Ph.D. in statistics and psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He authored numerous publications. Mr. Hruza was a black belt in karate and taught self-defense and concealed weapons classes. He specialized in security analysis and was a licensed private investigator. Ed was an avid reader of science fiction and history and enjoyed gardening. Ed valued his participation in RODEOS, a twice-weekly gathering of close friends.
In July of 1975, he married Alice Philbin, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hruza is survived by a sister, Roberta Ann Colilla and husband, William, of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; and two nieces, Ann and Laura Colilla.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Ed's life on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at the Philbin-Hruza residence from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be held privately and at a later date.
