Daniel Eugene Hodge, Sr.

Daniel Eugene Hodge Sr., 79, of McGaheysville, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Hodge was born on May 23, 1930, in Augusta County and was a son of the late Elvin and Sarah Eckard Hodge. Daniel was a self-employed poultry farmer for many years until his retirement. He was an avid big game hunter and sportsman. Mr. Hodge loved the outdoors and loved to travel. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.

On June 19, 1953, he married Phyllis Simmons, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hodge is survived by two sons, Daniel Eugene Hodge Jr. and wife, Debra, of Elkton, Bryan Hodge and wife, Susan, of McGaheysville; a daughter, Tammy Meadows and husband, Ronnie, of McGaheysville; two brothers, Charles Hodge of Mount Solon and Clarence Hodge of Staunton; two sisters, Shirley Newlen of Timberville, and Juanita Campbell of Mount Crawford; six grandchildren, Donald Hodge and wife, Jennifer, Trenton Hodge, Heather Crawford and husband, Lucas, Elliott Meadows, Caitlyn Hodge and Brooklyn Hodge; three great-grandchildren, Amber Hodge, Ashton Hodge and Bryson Hodge; and one great-great-grandson, Isaiah Lee. He was preceded in death by two brothers Roy Hodge and Claude Hodge; and five sisters, Geneva Tallman, Sylvia Eisman, Glenna Campbell, Betty Harris and Marie Davis.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 4, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elkton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 152, Elkton, VA 22827.

Donald,
Sorry to hear of the passing of your grandfather. Although no words can really
help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Hodge's death. I know it must be very hard for
all of you. My prayers and thoughts are with you. I miss my Brooklyn and will
be here for her if she needs me.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. Tammy my heart goes out to
you and all of the children and grandchildren. Also to your MOM. I donot get the
paper and just found out today. I know all of you were very close.
He was a
very nice and good hearted man. I know he will be missed by all that knew him.
