Ruby Lucille Caldwell, 65, of Rawley Springs, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 23, 2010, at her home with her family by her side after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 8, 1945, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Herbert and Annie Pence Brooks.
Ruby was a member of Peak Pentecostal Church and had been employed for 15 years at Rocco Industries and 15 years at Wampler Foods. In more recen t years, she was an elderly caregiver, where she visited and assisted many area residents in their homes. She was often found planting flowers, playing bingo and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Charles Howard Caldwell; three sons, Richard L. Caldwell and wife, Kim, of Rawley Springs, James A. "Jimmy" Caldwell and wife, Betty, of Dayton, and Randy R. Caldwell and wife, Kathy, of Hinton; her daughter, Sylvia A. Caldwell of Rawley Springs; one brother, Joe Brooks of Lacey Spring; two sisters, Ruth Morris and Lilly Shifflett, both of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, Christina Cubbage, April Caldwell, Ricky Caldwell, Amanda Caldwell, Haley Caldwell and two of whom were raised in the home, Josh Caldwell and Samantha Caldwell; four great-grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Patricia Fink, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Nutter; four brothers, Homer, Ralph, Herbie and Jimmy Brooks, and one grandson, Jamie Adamson.
The Rev. Laney Knight and Pastor James Kite will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Mount Clinton Mennonite Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening (Monday) from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
