Reeves Benjamin “Ben” Martin, Jr., 53, of Dayton, went to be with the Lord Sunday March 28, 2010 at his home with his family by his side.
Ben was born November 2, 1956 in Lynchburg, VA and was the son of Betty Martin and the late Reeves B. M artin, Sr. Ben attended Liberty Baptist College in Lynchburg. He was the Service Manager with Kwick-Lube and Adams Lube Center in Lynchburg for several years and then relocated to the Shenandoah Valley in 1999. He went on to work at Harrisonburg Honda as a service manager before his illness required him to retire. Ben was a charter member of Faith Community Church where he served as a Lay Minister of Pastoral Care. This ministry developed into a true passion that inspired and encouraged all that met him. He also worked as a Chaplain for Pilgrim’s Pride in Broadway. Ben was an avid baseball fan, especially for the Boston Red Sox. Ben will be remembered as an amazing, loving, unselfish, fun-loving, witty, inspiring husband, father, son and friend.
On September 4, 1982 he married Vicki Clinedinst Martin, his wife of 27 years who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Matthew Kent Martin, Andrew Ryan Martin and Benjamin Tyler Martin all of Harrisonburg; one daughter, Nikki Rosser and family of Lynchburg; one brother, Donald Martin and wife, Sherry of Myrtle Beach, SC; one sister, Linda Howard and husband, Leon of Forrest, VA; two nephews, Christian Martin of Myrtle Beach and Lee Howard and family of Winston Salem, NC; one niece, Jennifer Bechtel and family of Madison Heights, VA; beloved Aunt & Uncle, Sue and Darrell Dearing of Madison Heights, VA; and-in-laws, Linda and E.A. Clinedinst; sister-in-law, Carol Clinedinst who loved Ben like a son and brother.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday April 2, 2010 at 7pm at Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton, VA with Pastor Keith Hulton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7pm at the church.
