Eleanor Virginia Mitchell Deputy, 95, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at White Birch Estates.
Mrs. Deputy was born on Sept. 23, 1914, in Junction City, Neb., and was a daughter of the late James Pleasant and Dorothy Lee Pederson Mitchell. Eleanor was a charter member of the Eagles Club in Harrisonburg, and formerly active with the Rockingham County Republican Party. She loved to travel, cook, garden, an d spend time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mrs. Deputy was preceded in death by two husbands, Keiffer B. Menefee in 1970, and Robert F. Deputy in 2008. She was also preceded in death by a son, Edgar K. Menefee, and a brother, James A. Mitchell.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Jarrels and husband, Norman, of Mount Crawford; a son, Warren L. Sampson and wife, Ruth, of Grottoes; two sisters, Elizabeth Baker of Mount Crawford, and Dorothy Shull of Dayton; special daughter-in-law, Betty Myers; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Pastor Doyle Payne officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
