Barbara Jean Smith Kite

Barbara Jean Smith Kite, 45, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at her home in Rocky Bar.

Mrs. Kite was born Jan. 31, 1965, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of Vernon Smith and Brenda Gatewood.

Barbara delivered newspapers for the Daily News-Record for 15 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and reading romance novels.

On Feb. 14, 1985, she married Larry Wayne Kite, who survives. Besides her parents and husband, she is also survived by her children, Randy Nelson Gatewood, Brandon Wayne Shifflett, Jeremy Scott Kite, Justin Michael Kite and Alicia Renee Kite; five grandchildren, Tayvon, Terrya, McKenzie, Brayden and Chasity; stepmother, Carolyn Smith; paternal grandmother, Gladys Mae Bennett and maternal grandmother, Kathleen Davis.

A funeral service will be help 4 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Pastor Mike Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Kyger Funeral Home, 115 Nicholson Road, Elkton, VA 22827, to help offset these unexpected funeral expenses.

When I think of Barbara I always laugh. She was one of the funniest people I
ever knew.
