Virginia Carrie Jackson, 79, of McGaheysville, passed away March 15, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Jackson was born June 6, 1930, in Stuarts Draft and was the daughter of late Archie and Fannie Darcus. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in McGaheysville, where she served as pianist, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and usher. She also served on the Board of Trustees, choir and was the "Mother" of the church. She was active in many organizations, including the Berean Valley Baptist Association, Cavalier Club and was the pianist for the Ministers, Stewards, Deacons, and Laymans of Virginia. She was a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star, and was a major contributor to the Shenandoah Valley Hit Newspaper.
On June 6, 1946, she married Albert Edward Jackson, who preceded her in death on March 31, 1992. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her children, Albert E. Jackson Jr. and wife, Hazel, of Seattle, Wash., Jennifer Jackson Patton, of Arlington, Betty Jackson, of McGaheysville, Miles Jackson, of Charlottesville, Dennis Jackson, of McGaheysville; a sister, Lucille Shepherd, of Manassas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, eight brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with the Revs. Michael Turner, David H. Jones, Guy Wood, Russell Johnson and the Rev. Dr. Sherry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday 2 to 5 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church in McGaheysville and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
