L. Christine Dean, 91, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 24, 2010, at the Evergreene Nursing Care Center in Stanardsville.
Ms. Dean was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Barbara Ellen Bailey Dean. Besides her parents, she also was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Wayne Dean and William Farrell Dean; a sister, Lyda Cook; and a brother, Howard Dean.
Ms. Dean was a lifetime resident of the area and a member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church. She previously worked at Duplan in Grottoes and the Knitting Mill in Shenandoah, where they made parachutes during the war. She really enjoyed vacations at Shenandoah Acres with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Ellen L. Lam and husband, Carl, and Margaretta Isom and husband, Glenn, all of Elkton; four grandchildren, Bobbie Pence, Carletta Life, Randy Dean and Candy Roach; three step-grandchildren, Joseph, Heather and Alicia; seven great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Elkton Pentecostal Church with Pastor Travis Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the home of her daughters, Ellen and Margaretta's at any time.
