Virginia Mae Shifflett, 79, of Elkton passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Shifflett was born May 30, 1930, in the Thoroughfare area of Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Ree Otto and Mary Elizabeth Breeden.
Mrs. Shifflett was a lifetime resident of the Elkton area and attended Hensley's United Methodist Church in her youth and Maple Springs School. She was employed with Marvel Poultry and retired from Golden Acres. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, and her pet dog "Tiny".
On May 5, 1945, she married Robert Lee "Buddy" Shifflett, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1998. Survivors include a son, Roger L. Shifflett Sr. and wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Shirley M. Morris and husband, Junior, and Carolyn Faye Thompson and husband, Aubrey; a sister, Kathleen Hensley all of Elkton; seven grandchildren, one step grandchild, 17 great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Jean Shifflett; brothers, Elmer Breeden, Alvie Breeden, Carson Eppard, Odis Eppard and Charmin Breeden; and sisters, Ora Dean, Ruby Snow and Thelma Haney.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with Pastor Wayne Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends also may call or visit at the Shifflett home at any time.
