Irene Florence Morgan, 94, of Shenandoah, passed away on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the home of Wanda Graney and Judy Hensley. On April 25, 1915, she was born in Stafford, Va., to the late George and Hattie Belle Helfin Coppage. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John L. Waters Sr.; a son, John L. Waters Jr.; second husband, Harold Knight Jr.; two sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Morgan was raised in Stafford and retired from People's Drug Store in Washington D.C. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bowling and dancing.
In June of 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Morgan, who preceded her in death in January of 1990.
Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Graney and husband, Frank, of Shenandoah; her son, Willard "Woody" Wilson Waters and wife, Alma Williams, of Eden, N.C.; a stepson, Terry Morgan and wife, Molly, of Pennsylvania; her sister, Leethel Thompson of Capitol Heights, Md.; her brother, Linden "Duke" Coppage of Clinton, Md.; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. L.J. "Dickie" Campbell presiding. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the service on Friday, friends are welcome to join the family at the home of her daughter, Joyce.
