Charles E. Weaver

The funeral for Charles Edward "Eddie" Weaver, 86, of 2188 Beldor Road, Elkton, will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with the Revs. Jim Hershberger and Clyde Plum officiating. Visitation will be that same day from noon to 2 p.m.

Eddie died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, from injuries he received in an automobile accident the previous day.

Eddie was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Weaver Hollow in Page County, Va., and was the son of the late Paul Weaver and Myrtle Aleshire Cubbage Weaver Jenkins. He was the stepson of the late Oscar "OL" Jenkins.

Eddie was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was a member of Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.

On April 18, 1952, he married the former Virginia "Jenny" Shifflett, who survives. She was the only girl he ever loved.

Also surviving are two daughters, Donna Knight and husband, Leroy, of Grottoes and Cathy Pence and husband, Scott, of Elkton; three grandchildren, Lauren Pence and Alyssa Pence, both of Elkton, and Jonathan Knight of Grottoes; one great-granddaughter, who is due in March. He is also survived by two sisters, Blanche Merica of College Park, Md., and Mozell Turner and husband, Noah, of Stanley, whom he was especially close to.

In addition to his parents and stepfather, Eddie was preceded in death by two brothers, Groover Weaver and Paul Cubbage, and four sisters, Elsie Cubbage, Ollie Cubbage, Pauline Cubbage Lam and Iva Weaver Merica.

Eddie worked as a brick mason for over 40 years, primarily with R.E. Lee in Charlottesville. He laid brick on many of the buildings at the University of Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shenandoah Rescue Squad, Elkton Rescue Squad, or Beldor Mennonite Church.

For those of us who knew and loved him as a husband, father, grandfather and brother, he leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kygers.com.
