Elwood Lewis "Woody" Miller, 58, of Crimora, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Miller was born Nov. 16, 1951, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Clyde Lewis and surviving Gladys May Knight Miller. Woody was active in the Virginia National Guard for 10 years, the Virginia Defense Force for six years, and the Civil Air Patrol for 12 years. He was a security guard for Massanutten Resort and also owned and operated Miller's Mowing Service. Woody was a member of the NRA, and loved to hunt and fish. He never met a stranger, and was always helping others.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Miller is survived a brother, Jesse Miller and wife, Linda, of Lacey Spring; two sisters, Goldie Mullins of Shenandoah and Helen L. Carper and husband, James, of Harrisonburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Feb. 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
