Loretta Hensley Grunewald

Loretta Hensley Grunewald, 57, of Elkton, passed away Jan. 26, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Grunewald was born Aug. 4, 1952, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of Orson R. Hensley of Elkton and the late Violet Hanger Hensley.

Loretta graduated from Montevideo High School. In 1974, she graduated from James Madison University and later went on to teach in Bath County and Greene County elementary schools for several years. For the past 28 years, she was secretary in the economics department at JMU. She was a member and organist of the Bear Lithia Baptist Church near Elkton.

On Sept. 17, 1988, she married George Grunewald, who survives. Besides her father and husband, she is survived by a brother, Carson Hensley of Elkton; a sister, Diana Cooper of Fulks Run; and her pet parrot, Lemon Drop.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at the Bear Lithia Baptist Church near Elkton with Pastor Don Leatherman, the Rev. Frederick Schmidt and the Rev. Don Guthrie officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Grunewald home at any time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bear Lithia Baptist Church, P.O. Box 194, Elkton, VA 22827.

I had the pleasure of graduating with Loretta and always enjoyed her beautiful

I was so sorry to hear of Loretta's passing. I was always happy to see
you and her come in Roosters Restaurant. She was such a sweet lady and I know
