BAMBERG, S.C. - Prophet Carlton Powell, 52, went home to be with the Lord from Bamberg County Hospital on Jan. 21, 2010.
Carlton's greatest accomplishment was at the age of 24 when he received salvation, was filled with the Holy Spirit and learned how to be obedient to the voice of God. He grew through ministry to become an anointed, ordained Apostle and Prophet. He was able to teach and be an example of all the five-fold ministry that's talked about in Ephesians 4:11 and 12. Carlton learned how to operate and demonstrate the gifts of God by diligent study of the Bible and by watching his mother, sister and other members of his family minister. He has spent his life since traveling, ministering and establishing people and churches in the True Word and fulfilling the great commission (Mark 16:15). He loved ALL and was willing to learn any occupation and go anywhere for a hungry soul (I Corinthians 9:19-23). He taught the church how to fight spiritual warfare, to stand against adversity, to intercede and to look forward to the move of God for miracles and answers to prayer. With the anointing, he had the gift of faith and love that he walked with each day. With the level of revelation and knowledge that he has gained through the years, he was always willing to reveal and encourage the opportunity that God has for each person that he met. Carlton was the founder and pastor of "The Bible Study Ministries." He will be greatly missed, but the church goes forward looking to the day that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Powell; sister, Clarassie; brother, Mark; many brothers and sisters in Christ; and his wife, children and a host of nieces and nephews and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Evangelist Ethel Powell and Elder Benjamin F. Cubbage officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
