Paul Charles Austin, 88, of 3204 Comertown Road, Shenandoah, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Austin was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Frederick County, and was the son of the late Chelous H. and Lena G. Dovel Austin.
Mr. Austin was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613 in Shenandoah. He had been employed by Virginia Oak Tannery in Luray, Shenandoah Recycling Center and he retired from Shenandoah National Park.
In 1948, he married Catherine Painter Austin, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 2003. He is survived by four sons, Paul T. Austin and wife, Della, Gary E. and Dexter R. Austin, all of Shenandoah, and Larry W. Austin and wife, Regina, of Stanley; one daughter, Linda Roach and husband, Manis, of Elkton; one brother, Curtis P. Austin of Shenandoah; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxie Ann Kandill; two sisters, Theo Evelyn Stanley and Janice Helen Gardiner; and two brothers, Wiley Hudson Austin and Lawrence Austin.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle near Elkton with the Rev. Homer Frazier and Pastor Ronald Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Shenandoah with military rites by the Avis O. Comer VFW Post 8613.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church. Friends may also call at the home of his son, Gary, at any time.
