Mary Virginia Taylor Derrer

Mary Virginia Taylor Derrer, 93, of Harrisonburg, went peacefully to be with her Lord Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.

She was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Indiana, and was the daughter of the late Robert and Rebecca Taylor.

On Nov. 9, 1936, she married Martin E. Derrer, who preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Burkholder, and a son, Richard Derrer.

She is survived by three sons, Larry Derrer and his wife, Linda, of Harrisonburg, Kenneth Derrer and his wife, Beth, of Mount Sidney, and Leonard Derrer and his wife, Carolyn, of Mount Crawford; two daughters, Beverly Schaeffer of Grottoes and Patricia Griffin of Harrisonburg; a special son-in-law, Richard Burkholder of McGaheysville; 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 50 great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg and will leave in procession for a graveside service, which will be held at 11 a.m. at Keezletown Cemetery with the Rev. Ann Pettit officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's honor to a charity that is close to your heart.
