Eleanor Polidari, 78, of Harrisonburg, died peacefully on Jan. 4, 2010, at her home. She was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Cornwall, N.Y. Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Peter; her parents, Aileen and William Gunn; her brothers, Kenny, Donald and Bud; her sister, Sis; and son-in-law, Nicky.
Before moving to the Shenandoah Valley 15 years ago, she owned and operated "Sweet Pete's Luncheonette" for many years with her husband in Paterson, N.J. If you knew Eleanor, you knew gentleness. She was a woman devoted to her husband, her family and making sure everyone was happy. She possessed unconditional love for all of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Infant Catholic Church. She loved her church and the people she knew there. She never had a harsh word for anyone. She was the gentlest woman we have ever known. A wiz at crazy eights and a love for horror movies kept us on our toes and scratching our heads, go figure!
Eleanor is survived by her five children, Michael of Harrisonburg, Ellie and her husband, Michael, and cat, Miko, of Harrisonburg, Peter and his wife, Lisa, of Williamsburg, Va., Fred and his wife, Karen, of Williamsburg, Va., and Connie and her husband, Jan, and puppy, Max, of Paterson, N.J. Also surviving and very special to her were her two horror movie buddies, her granddaughter Kacey and her husband, Andrew, and cat, Polly Walnuts, of Harrisonburg; two sisters-in-law, Millie of Harrisonburg and Louise of Haledon, N.J.; other grandchildren, include Peggy Ann, Ellie, Chrissy, Freddie, Stephanie and her husband, Bobby; great-grandchildren, Richie and Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends in both Harrisonburg and New Jersey.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Elkton on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Father Jim Dorson presiding. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of RMH, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
Condolences may be made to the family at www.kygers.com.
