Ernest McArthur \"Jap\" Sites, 66, of Keezletown, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Sites was born on Aug. 13, 1943, in Washington, D.C., and was the son of the late Hannah Elizabeth Sites Hark and Bingham Hugo Hark.
Jap worked for Rockingham Construction for 20 years and retired from Harrisonburg Electric Company after 15 years of service. He was also an avid softball player with many teams in Rockingham County for over 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Virginia Bear Hunter\'s Association and Woodman of the World.
On March 29, 1962, he married Gloria Christina Maylott Sites, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sites is survived by two sons, Wade Hampton Sites and wife, Jo, of Elkton and Matthew Shane Sites and wife, Leslie, of Dayton; four daughters, Leslie Darlene Miller and Rodney Wampler of Harrisonburg, Robin Margaret Barlow of Richmond, Erin Michelle Golden and husband, Bill, of Dayton and Danielle Christina Sites and Charlie Thacker of Louisa; 20 grandchildren of which two special granddaughters were raised in Mr. Sites\' home; 14 great-grandchildren; two uncles, Dewey \"Don\" Dorman and Henry \"Hank\" Dorman; and one sister-in-law, Meredith Radley.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Keezletown Cemetery.
The Sites family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of floral contributions, the family requests donations be made to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Local Fraternal Order of Police or a local charity of your choice.
