Sheldon Dwight Baker, 79, of Mount Crawford, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Baker was born on Dec. 15, 1929, in Fort Defiance, Va., and was a son of the late Olin D. and Mabel Fifer Baker.
Sheldon worked for Metro Pants from 1953 until 1980. He then worked for Madison R.M. until 1992. Following his retirement, he worked part time for the Harrisonburg Auto Auction. From December of 1950 until December of 1952, Mr. Baker was a paratrooper with the Virginia Army National Guard with the 11th Airborne Division. He also attended Grottoes Church of God.
On Sept. 22, 1972, he married Wanda Moubray Baker, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by three sons, Danny Baker of Dayton, Bobby Mowbray of Staunton, Jeffrey Moubray of Elkton; one stepson, Darrell Moubray of Elkton; one stepdaughter, Debbie Moubray of Staunton; one brother, Ivan Baker of Unionville, Va.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Delmas Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Crawford Cemetery with military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post No. 27.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
