Hyldren \"Doc\" Pearl Lantz, 82, of Harrisonburg, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Doc was born April 1, 1927, in Reeds Creek, W.Va., and was the son of the late Pearl and Ethel Lantz. He was also preceded in death by a son, Frankie H. Lantz, and two sisters, Mary Bilheimer and Myrtle Shifflett.
During World War II, Doc was in the USMC. When he returned to the Harrisonburg area, he was a mechanic for Highway Motors and later worked in construction as a mason. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 632 in Harrisonburg.
Doc is survived by three sons, Billy E. Lantz and wife, Joyce, of Keezletown, Steven A. Lantz and wife, Donna, of Pineville, and David W. Lantz and wife, Krista, of Newport News; two daughters, Linda Sue White and husband, Joe, of Gloucester, and Vickie A. Madison and husband, Jimmy, of Newport News; and 12 grandchildren, one stepgrandson and 21 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Jimmy Kite officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
