Ray Solon Jenkins, 83, of Elkton, passed away Dec. 23, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. He had been a re sident at Loyalton for the past two years.
Mr. Jenkins was born May 31, 1926, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Dave and Pauline Davis Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins was a member of the Bethel United Church of Christ near Elkton, and the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics and the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292 at Elkton. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific during the occupation of Japan. He owned and operated Rays Repair Service and farmed with his son, Donnie for many years. He retired from Reynolds Metals.
His wife, Ruby Alger Jenkins, preceded him in death on March 8, 2008. He is survived by a son, Donnie Jenkins and wife, Lois, of Elkton; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Jenkins, Charleston, S.C.; sisters, Hilda Snow and husband, Randall, and Louise Monger and husband, Richard, all of Elkton, Florence Stanley, Delaware; a brother, Clyde Jenkins and wife, Duddy, Grottoes; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Jenkins, a sister, Emma Frazier, and brothers, Paul, Melvin (Mike) and Henry Jenkins.
The Rev. Dan Bassett and Donnie Jenkins will conduct the funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery with military rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
