Vernon Eugene "Virgil" Landes

Vernon Eugene \"Virgil\" Landes, 52, of Weyers Cave, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Landes was born on Oct. 9, 1957, in Weyers Cave, and was the son of the late Vernon Elmo and surviving Kathleen Myers Landes.

Virgil graduated from Fort Defiance High School in 1976. During high school, he worked for Maphis and Chapman. He also worked for Americast, now a division of Valley Blox, Shickel Machine Shop and most recently, Byers Mechanical. He enjoyed helping his family and the community in any way possible. Mr. Landes was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

On Aug. 23, 1993, he married Jeanie Huffman, who survives.

In addition to his wife and mother, Virgil is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Dawn Huffman and companion, Kathy Mello, of Harrisonburg, and Tracy Denise Huffman of Weyers Cave; one sister, Judith Landes Floyd and husband, Paul, of Stephens City; two grandchildren, Olivia Denise Huffman and Jacob Dawson Trent; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Landes Bell.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at the Weyers Cave United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wes Thornberry officiating. Burial will follow at Weyers Cave Cemetery.

The Landes family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grottoes Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 67, Grottoes, VA 24441, or to the Weyers Cave Fire Department, 1235 Keezletown Road, Weyers Cave, VA 24486.

MISSED & LOVED
Vern was a great and caring man. Ive known him forever! He always did the best
he could for anybody especially the ones he cared for. A great time was always
had! He will be sadly missed.

Vern a great neighbor, allways quick with smile, greeting and help. Allways
lived life to fullest, will be sadly missed but remembered by all who knew him.

Virgil was always quick to come to the rescue. All it took was a phone call and
he was there within minutes no matter what he was doing. So sorry. He will be
greatly missed.
