Raymond Alfred Eye, 89, of Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.
Mr. Eye was born on March 29, 1920, in Martinsburg, W.Va., and was the son of the late Frank and Gertie Leary Eye.
Raymond owned and operated Eye\'s Rug Service for 37 years prior to his retirement. After he retired, Mr. Eye went to work for the Harrisonburg Auto Auction for eight years, working until he was 85 years old. He was a life member of Rion-Bowmen VFW Post No. 63 2 in Harrisonburg, Dayton American Legion Post 27 and the Forty & Eight of Harrisonburg. Mr. Eye served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On March 29, 1941, he married Tina Joy Payne, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Eye is survived by two daughters, Brenda Eye and fiancé, Melvin Taylor Jr. of Keswick, and Sondra May and husband, Jack, of Dayton; a sister, Genevieve Todd; two grandchildren, Kim Spitler and husband, Dave, and Terry May; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Spitler and Hunter May; two nephews, Donald Todd and wife, Sue, and Paul Piner Jr. and wife, Linda; a niece, Helen Newman and a great-niece, Helen Dean and husband, Kyle. Mr. Eye was preceded in death by a sister, Gerline Morris.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Sonny Henkel officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no formal visitation.
