Mary Jane Souder Yanchek, 85, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Willow Estates in Penn Laird.
Mary Jane was born Oct. 5, 1924, in New Market, Va., and was the daughter of the late Preston Elwood and Mary Osborne B urkholder.
On March 30, 1947, she married Allen T. Souder, who preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1972. In July 1977, she married Paul Yanchek Jr., who preceded her in death in January 1983. She was also preceded in death by one brother, P. Elwood Burkholder Jr., and one sister, Patricia B. Fultz.
Mary Jane was a member of the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, loved to cook and was an excellent seamstress. Mary Jane worked as a hostess at the Sheraton/Holiday Inn up until she was 81. She enjoyed most of all working the Sunday brunch and seeing many of her friends.
Mary Jane is survived by one son, Preston Franklin Souder and wife, Lorena Faye, of Harrisonburg; two daughters, Carla Jane Foerster and husband, Lee, and Melinda Lane Souder, both of Port Republic; two brothers, Robert Burkholder of New Market, Va., and Charles Burkholder of Snellville, Ga.; one sister, Alice Bradley of Yorktown, Va.; four grandchildren, Gregory Allen Souder, Gail Anne Souder, Nathan Andrew Foerster and Jillian Leigh Foerster; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Leigh Souder and Cade Preston Souder.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg with the Rev. David Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends and family at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
