Lois Leon \"Tuck\" Davis, 88, of Elkton, passed away Oct. 13, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Davis was born March 7, 1921, near Elkton, and was the son of the late Charles and Renia Eppard Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Frances Smith Davis, whom he married June 30, 1948; a daughter, Bonnie Davis Breeden; brothers, Harold Davis, Donald Davis, Hurdle Davis, Willard Davis and Mike Davis; sisters, Arlene Davis, Ruby Lam, Ressie Monger, Christine Eppard, Bessie Lam and Orpha Harris.
Mr. Davis attended the Mount Pleasant Roadside School in Rockingham County and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He landed on the beaches of Normandy three weeks after D-Day and drove a German prisoner truck across France. He was a member of the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292, the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics, the Chemical Union at Merck and the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton. He retired from Merck & Company in 1982 after 37 years of service.
Mr. Davis is survived by two sons, Robert Leon \"Robby\" Davis and wife, Susan, of Elkton, Martin Lee \"Marty\" Davis of Shenandoah; two daughters, Susan Lucas and husband, Clinton O., of Shenandoah, Connie Davis of Elkton; stepson, Charles \"Bill\" Smith and wife, Dottie, of Harrisonburg; a sister, Orva Taylor of Elkton; 12 grandchildren, Jason Breeden (reared in the home), Kevin Lam, Craig Lucas, Monica Brewer, Justin Davis, Garett Davis, Sara Howe, Cassie Davis, Ashley Davis, Kim Smith, Jennifer Linkous and David Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; companion and caregiver, Almeta Hensley of Harrisonburg; and a number of nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton with the Rev. Robert W. Smith Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Elk Run Cemetery with graveside rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Davis home at any time.
