Diane Lynn Lawson Helmick, 48, of Harrisonburg, and formerly of Elkton, passed away Sept. 24, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Helmick was born Aug. 24, 1961, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Otis Wilson and Janice Shifflett Lawson.

She grew up in Elkton and attended the Elkton Church of God and was a homemaker.

Diane is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Helmick of Harrisonburg; a son, Brandon Lawson of Elkton; five brothers, Ronnie Lawson, Ricky Lawson, both of Elkton, Gary Lawson Sr. and wife, Tammy, of Waynesboro, Michael Lawson and wife, Tammy, of Broadway, and Jeremy Lawson and wife, Melissa, of Elkton; two sisters, Aileen Moubray and husband, Dave, Sharon Good and husband, Gene, all of Elkton; a companion, Jack Pennington of Harrisonburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a companion, David Cole.

Pastor Sam Sponaugle will conduct a memorial service 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the Elkton Church of God.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church and at the home of her sister, Aileen Moubray, at any time.

Arrangements are by Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Sorry we can not be with you at this time of saddness. We love Diane, and what she did to help my cousin David Cole. She was an angel.. She is walking with Dave, and his Dad who passed away on Aug. 12, 2009. We will always remember her, and we are bringing Dave's dad ashes to Virginia in Nov. or spring of 2010, to be with his son.
