Warren Edward Derrow, 77, of Keezletown, passed away on Wednesday September 16, 2009 at the University of Virginia Medical Center from complications following surgery.
He was born in Harrisonburg on April 16, 1932 and was a son of the late Elmer and Vera Myers Derrow.
Mr. Derrow was a member of the People’s Baptist Church of Penn Laird where he was a deacon for 50 years and also served as a trustee, teacher, and bus driver. He has been a Gideon since 1971. He was employed as a Bus Driver for Rockingham County Schools where students called him “Mr. D.” He formerly worked 22 years for Marval/Rocco; 22 years for Rockingham Co-op Farm Bureau; owned and operated Derrow Cars for 35 years with a garage and inspection license for 10 years.
He was united in Marriage on July 7, 1951 to Frances Smith of Harrisonburg who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Derrow is survived by his children, Debra Fellenbaum and husband Kenneth of Milford, CT, Larry Derrow and wife Pam of Spotsylvania, Tamara Armentrout and husband Ronald of Weyers Cave, Kent Derrow and wife Sharon of Elkton, Scott Derrow and wife Craig of Wake Forest, NC, Brent Derrow of Weyers Cave; Sixteen grandchildren, Four Great-granddaughters; two sisters, Lorraine Gooden and Evelyn Myers, and a brother, Lawrence Derrow. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Derrow.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday September 19, 2009 at 11 AM at Peoples Baptist Church in Penn Laird with Pastor Richard Forsythe officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenmount Brethren Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the People’s Baptist Church, 3523 Spotswood Trail, Penn Laird, VA 22846; or to the Gideon’s International, 1326 Smithland Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
