Owen Richard Aukema, 61, of Harrisonburg, died on the evening of Sept. 10, 2009, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Mr. Aukema was born on May 8, 1948, in Newton, N.J., to the late Gerben and Jeanette Veenstra Aukema.
He owned and operated Aukema Dairy Farm in Goshen, N.Y., for many years and recently was employed with QSI in Dayton. Owen was an animal lover, enjoyed gardening and appreciated the natural world. He was beloved by many, especially his heavenly father.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jean Marie and Art Wagner of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandson, Art Jr.; three sisters, Lori A. Riegel, Nellie Campbell, Arline Jordan; three brothers, Thomas Aukema, William Aukema and Mark Aukema; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved \"Peaches.\" In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna \"Niki\" Aukema.
A funeral service, conducted by Pastor Guy Hudson, will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Melrose Church of the Brethren. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the service.
