Hylbert Vinson Riley, age 72, of Harrisonburg, died on Sept. 1, 2009. Mr. Riley was born on Dec. 9, 1936, in Rich Wood, W.Va., and was the son of the late Freda Robertson.
Mr. Riley managed the Lowes store in Harrisonburg, Va., until his retirement 18 years ago. He loved his retirement years, which allowed for traveling with his wife and spending time with his family, which includes four grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing and camping. He was a devoted JMU football fan, member of the Elks Club and a church volunteer. Mr. Riley was a member of First Presbyterian Church on Court Square.
On June 15, 1956, he married Patsy Sue Rakes, who survives. In addition to his wife, Patsy, he is survived by his daughter, Susan Riley May and husband, Paul, of Reedville, Va.; a son, Alan S. Riley and wife, Adriena, of Willow Springs, N.C.; and grandchildren, Hillary Diane May, Collin Paul May, Alexa Layne Riley and Aidan Stuart Riley.
Dr. John Sloop and Dr. Kyle Key will conduct a memorial service 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. There will be no formal visitation.
