Velma Aileen Miller, 83, of Elkton, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the home of her stepdaughter in Elkton. A daughter of the late Simeon and Grace Taylor Meadows, she was born in Page County on Jan. 9, 1926.
Mrs. Miller was a longtime member of Furnace United Methodist Church and a current member of Coles Point United Methodist Church and also a member of the Avis O. Comer V.F.W. Post No. 8613 in Shenandoah. She was a hairstylist for many years while living in Florida. After returning home to Jollett, she and her husband owned and operated the V&M Auction House in the Newtown area of Elkton. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafting, sewing and was a wonderful cook.
Velma resided in Florida for many years where she met her husband, Max L. Miller, whom she married on June 11, 1973, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Pam Bailey and husband, Louis of Mechanicsville, Md.; a stepdaughter, Susan McDonald and husband, Bill, of Elkton; two sisters, Myrtle Eppard of Elkton and Rosetta Meadows of Falls Church; two grandchildren, Jeff Bailey and Robert Bailey; four step-grandchildren, Courtland McDonald, Jessica McDonald, Chris Mason and Nickie Mason; one step-great-grandchild, Chase Mason; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her three brothers, Eugene Meadows, Ralph Meadows and Elvin Meadows and a sister, Oneeda Lam.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with Pastor Stephen Renalds officiating. Burial will follow at the Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Elkton.
