Bobby L. Washington

Bobby Lee Washington, 73, of Grottoes, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Bobby was born on Jan. 8, 1936, in Brandywine, W.Va., and was the son of the late Henry and Lena Washington.

He loved NASCAR, especially Jimmy Johnson No. 48, and loved his 12-year-old poodle, Bingo.

On July 1, 1967, he married Helen Freed Washington, who survives. He is preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Bodkin; brothers, Charles, Sam and Joe Washington; and grandson, Matthew James Holbert.

He is survived by a daughter, Bobbie Jo Holbert and husband, James, of McGaheysville; three grandchildren,  Stephanie Holbert, Brandon James Holbert, and Arron Lee Holbert; brothers, Warren Washington of Mount Crawford, Eugene Washington of Harrisonburg, and Jerry Washington of Grottoes; sisters, Arminna Fitzwater of Mount Crawford, Judy Custer of Harrisonburg, and Sue Long of McGaheysville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Michael Fallin officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home of Sue Long in McGaheysville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Clinton Church of God, 6454 Mount Clinton Pike, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.

My husband and I got the pleasure of meeting both you and Bobby during his hosp
admission as my husband was in the next bed (James Campbell Total Knee
Replacement). We both were very sorry to hearing of Bobby's passing but know
that he will be going to a better place bearing no pain and only smiles. May
God continue to bless you ad your family durng this tme of healing.

We are sorry for your loss. I will miss waving at Bobby ever time he went to get
his mail. He was a sweet man and we will miss him.
