Our precious mother, Mary Jane Merica, 75, of Elkton, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, after a courageous battle following a stroke.
Mrs. Merica was born May 7, 1934, in Page County and was the daughter of the late Charles Harris and Eva Dell Grimsley Templon.
Jane was a member of the Furnace United Methodist Church near Elkton and also the Women’s Society. She worked for 29 years at Blue Bell Inc., in Elkton as payroll clerk, and retired from the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center after 10 years of service as an office specialist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
On Aug. 20, 1953, she married Charles Roe Merica, who preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1985. She is survived by three daughters, Karen Jane Perkins and her husband, David, of Staunton, Sandra Jean Garrett and her husband, Charles Scott, of Gloucester, Vicky Gale Shifflett and her husband, Johnny, of Grottoes; three brothers, Charles “Eddie” Templon and his wife, Frances, William “Bill” Templon and his wife, Linda, all of Elkton, and Gary Templon of Keezletown; six grandchildren, Cristina Beth Drobinski, Matthew Perkins, Jessica G. Allison, Phillip Garrett, Christopher Garrett and Allen Meadows; five great-grandchildren, Charles Henry Perkins, Noah Patrick Perkins, Emily Noelle Allison, Charles Roe Meadows and Jacob Allen Meadows; and numerous loving family members. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily Anne Garrett.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Aug. 30, 2009, at the Furnace United Methodist Church near Elkton with Pastor Nona F. Allen and Chaplain Carol Congdon officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
