Vivian L. Phelan

Vivian Lisa Johnsen Phelan, 44, of Clarksville, Tenn., passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg. She was born Oct. 16, 1964, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

She is survived by her parents Norman and Sarah Lee Johnsen; her four children, Deborah Waddell of Gateway Baptist Church, Clarksville, Tenn., Christina Waddell of Clarksville, Tenn., David Waddell of Gateway Baptist Church, Clarksville, Tenn., and Ruth-Mary Phelan of Rochelle; and her three grandchildren, Raine, Frank, and Annastasha, as well as many special friends in the Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia and in Clarksville, Tenn.

Vivian spent the better part of the last 13 years in the Shenandoah Valley area before moving to Clarksville, Tenn., in 2007. Her health forced her to move back to the Shenandoah Valley this July. Vivian attended Lighthouse Christian Fellowship while in Clarksville, Tenn., and Mount Hermon Mennonite Church in Stanardsville.

Vivian enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and children and reading the Word of God. She worked in the telecommunications industry until her illness and spent the last year of her life with family.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Mount Hermon Mennonite Church in Greene County with Pastor Vernon Peachey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening (Wednesday) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Sunrise, Inc.  P.O. Box 99, Dayton, VA 22821.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kygers.com.
