William Franklin Dovel, 77, of Harrisonburg, passed away Aug. 9, 2009, in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Dovel was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Harrisonburg, and was the son of the late Elmer and Louvenia Dovel.
Mr. Dovel was a lifelong resident of the Valley and enjoyed his animals, especially his dogs and birds. He enjoyed horse racing, cars, and rooting for his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. He was an independent wholesale car dealer in the area and had previously worked at Harrisonburg Fruit & Produce.
Mr. Dovel is survived by a daughter, Wendy Torgerson of Elkton; a stepdaughter, Dona Click of Harrisonburg; his caregiver, Vicki Warg of Harrisonburg; brothers, Robert Dovel of Harrisonburg, Richard Dovel of Virginia Beach, Elmer Dovel Jr. of Fairfax; sisters, Betty Bower, Janet Johnson, Nancy Riggs, all of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Melinda Dean, Gypsy Torgerson and Anthony Torgerson.
The Rev. John Glover will conduct a memorial service 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
