Agnes Morris Heatwole, 83, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Heatwole was born in Charlottesville on Oct. 27, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Cecil and Margaret Shifflett Morris. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Emory Morris, and a sister, Francis Mowbray.
Agnes graduated from McGaheysville High School and retired after 29 years from Owens Brockway. She was a member of Brown Memorial Community Church, B.P.O.E. No. 450 Ladies Auxiliary and Rion-Bowman VFW Post No. 632 Ladies Auxiliary, both in Harrisonburg. She enjoyed dancing, socializing with friends and spending time with her grandchildren.
On Sept. 8, 1945, she married Weldon L. Heatwole, who preceded her in death in 1983. Surviving family include two sons, Ronald L. Heatwole and wife, Ann Marie, of Weyers Cave and Larry W. Heatwole and wife, Agnes, of Mooresville, Ind.; a brother, Rudolph Morris of Deland, Fla.; two sisters, Edith Blose of Harrisonburg and Charlotte Pecchenino of Kuna, Idaho; four grandchildren, DeeAnn McCoy, Dawn Chitwood, Ashley Heatwole and Amanda Heatwole; seven great-grandchildren, Teigan Heatwole, Dade Turner, Taylor Chitwood, Haley Chitwood, Ty McCoy, Kaitlyn McCoy and Trey McCoy; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Brown Memorial Community Church in McGaheysville with Pastor Richard Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg or anytime at her home, 268 Emerald Drive in Harrisonburg.
