Thelma V. Willliams

Thelma Virginia Williams, 80, of Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Williams was born July 13, 1928, in Kline, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Scott and Jessie Smith McCoy.

Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Franklin High School and taught Sunday School and worked with the youth class at the E.U.B. Church in Franklin. She moved to Harrisonburg from Franklin, W.Va., in 1963 and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. She was a sales clerk at Joseph Neys and later Spencer Shoes. She retired in 1990 and was a beloved mother and grandmother.

On Oct. 20, 1948, she married Herald Williams, who preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2008.

Mrs. Williams is survived by a daughter, Joyce Kuhns and husband, Jim, of Harrisonburg; a grandson, Andy Hedrick and wife, Stephanie, of Statesville, N.C.; and one great-grandchild, Gillian Hedrick; sisters, Betty Sinnett and husband, Lee, of Franklin, W.Va., Darlene Bennett and husband, Harlan, of Damascus, Md., Starr Hedrick and husband, Jack, of Upper Tract, W.Va.; and sister-in-law, Betty McCoy of Harrisonburg. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood McCoy.

Pastor Edward Fleming will conduct the funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

I really loved Thelma and enjoyed taking care of her. I never new what each day
would bring. We had fun picking on each other. I enjoyed fixing her meals and
talking to her.
I will be there for Joyce and Jim when they need me.
